Martha's Exchange, Nashua, NH

Martha's Exchange, You may have been there. It's on Main St in downtown Nashua, a great bar strip. Martha's is situated in an old Victorian style mill building. It has a "finer" feel than a lot of bars and a really nice wraparound bar that we usually pull our seats up to. On this particular Sunday evening, we tried three of their offerings, but we will have more review from Martha's in the future!

StoutSmall but creamy head, and a black opaque color. The Rosaleen Stout had an aroma of rich chocolate notes. Upon first sip... well, not really the first, I've had this stout a lot, but you get the point... creamy mouthfeel from the nitrogen draft, thins a bit in your mouth, but not so much that it's upsetting. Flavor was deep rich chocolate. Very drinkable, very delicious.

Winter Warmer - Let's compare it to Harpoon's, huh? They are very similar. It had a brown/red amber hazy color. The aroma was subtle spices - nutmeg, cinnamon, a bit of malt. The taste was a bit more nutmeg, little less cinnamon when compared to Harpoon's, but all around it's hard to find a winter warmer that differs much from what you already know as a winter warmer. It was good though.

Scotch Ale - The color was very dark brown, can see through it just a bit, which seemed a bit darker than a scotch ale should be, but hey, let's let it slide. It had a sweet malty aroma with hints of ale yeast. Coming in at 8.3%, you could not tell from drinking it, it was very very smooth. That's a big point of scotch ales, so that aspect was nailed, though, I can't recall now if it had a bit of alcohol warmth, which is encouraged in scotch ales. It had a semi-creamy mouthfeel likely from caramelization of the malt in the brewing process which provides scotch ales with a thicker mouthfeel .It had a fantastic malt profile with notes of dark fruits, possibly some bittering hops, mainly a malt-stand-out star. One of the best scotch ales I've had, though unfortunately I've had some bad scotch ales. By the way, I am brewing one of my own soon - ask me if you want to try it. Should be brewing early February.
